Coffee Soaps

Bring the smell of your favorite coffee house into your own kitchen or bathroom with this fabulous pair of coffee scented soaps. Make one for yourself and one for a friend, or give both as a gift!

Mocha Soap

Supplies:

  To help keep your handmade soaps from sticking in the molds, try coating the mold with cooking oil before use. If you don't use the cooking oil technique, you can also place the stubborn soap and mold in the refrigerator or freezer for about 10 minutes to make it easier to pop the soap out of the mold.
  2 1/2 ounces opaque avocado cucumber glycerin soap
• 1/4 teaspoon of cocoa powder
• 1/4 teaspoon of ground coffee
• rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
• 2 1/2" wide round mold

Instructions:

1. Melt the soap in the microwave or on the stove top: For the microwave, place the soap in a microwave safe container and microwave for 40 seconds on high, then in 10 second intervals until all the soap is melted. For the stove top, place the soap in a double boiler and set over low heat until completely melted, stirring slowly to encourage melting.
2. Pour 1/3 of the soap into the round mold and let it completely set. Spritz the set soap layer with rubbing alcohol.
3. Reheat the soap and add the cocoa, stirring well. Pour 1/2 of the cocoa soap into the mold on top of the first layer. Let the cocoa layer set, then spritz with rubbing alcohol.
4. Reheat the remaining soap and add the coffee, stirring well. Pour the coffee soap on top of the cocoa layer and let it set. When totally cool, pop the layered soap out of the mold.

Latte Soap

Supplies:

• 1 ounce transparent olive oil glycerin soap
• 1 1/2 ounces opaque avocado cucumber glycerin soap
• 1 1 teaspoon coffee beans
• rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
• 1/4 teaspoon ground coffee
• rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
• 2 1/2" wide round mold

Instructions:

1. Melt the transparent soap in the microwave or on the stove top: For the microwave, place the soap in a microwave safe container and microwave for 40 seconds on high, then in 10 second intervals until all the soap is melted. For the stove top, place the soap in a double boiler and set over low heat until completely melted, stirring slowly to encourage melting.
2. Place the coffee beans in the bottom of the soap mold. Pour half of the melted transparent soap into the mold on top of the beans. Let the soap layer completely set, then spritz with rubbing alcohol.
3. Reheat the remaining transparent soap and add the ground coffee, stirring well. Pour on top of the first layer, let set and spritz with rubbing alcohol.
4. Melt the opaque soap in the same way you melted the transparent soap, then pour over the coffee layers and let set. When totally cool, pop the layered soap out of the mold.
